When Books Become Conversations

There are moments in a writer's journey that cannot be measured by sales, rankings, or statistics. The Local Author Showcase at Brampton Library was one of those moments.

Throughout the event, readers stopped to browse, ask questions, and explore the ideas behind the books. Some were drawn to themes of healing and recovery. Others connected with stillness, reflection, leadership, or personal growth. What stood out most was not what people purchased — but what resonated with them.

Many visitors photographed titles that spoke to them. Others shared personal stories and experiences that connected with the themes throughout the collection. It was a quiet reminder that books often find their readers for reasons that cannot be predicted or planned.

One particularly meaningful moment came when a member of the library staff spent time with The Belief That Healed Me. After browsing its pages, she shared that the book resonated with her personally and chose to take a copy home. I had the privilege of signing and dating it before she left.

Moments like these clarify why writing exists.

A book begins in solitude. It is shaped through reflection, revision, uncertainty, and patience. Yet its purpose is fulfilled only when it reaches another person and becomes part of a conversation larger than the author alone.

The showcase also reinforced something I have come to understand throughout this publishing journey: readers are often searching for more than information. They are searching for perspective, understanding, and sometimes simply the quiet reassurance that they are not alone.

I left feeling grateful — not because of a single sale, but because of the conversations, the curiosity, and the genuine interest shown by those who stopped to engage with the work.

My thanks to Brampton Library, the organizers, volunteers, fellow authors, and everyone who took the time to visit.

The event lasted one day. The conversations continue.
